Concepts that are similar to “workation” in the tourism service market. The increasing and by now firmly established success of the term “workation”, a portmanteau of the words work and vacation, suggests the need to verify whether this concept has any impacts on labour law, especially as regards the determination of the place where the activity is performed, in order to identify the applicable law and the court having competent jurisdiction. The term does not simply mean working from places other than the habitual residence, because, should that be the case, it would fall within the ordinary remote working field. Conversely, one of the two components of the portmanteau is “vacation” and means a sort of combination between vacation and some productive initiative, that is to say the performance of tasks during vacations strictly speaking, in the terminology of the EU case law and legislation.
