INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF TOURISM, TRAVEL AND HOSPITALITY LAW Climate change may also impact the natural resources of island countries, such as coral reefs, which are sensitive ecosystems and important for dive tourism. Coral reefs are threatened by rising water temperatures and ocean acidification, which can lead to coral death and loss of marine biodiversity. However, island countries can adapt to climate change by adopting sustainable tourism development strategies. This can include the promotion of ecological and responsible tourism, the establishment of environmental conservation programs and the creation of resilient infrastructure to cope with extreme climatic conditions. Island countries often also enjoy absolute or near-absolute advantages in tourism due to their unique natural environment, beaches and tropical climate. However, climate change may alter this absolute advantage by affecting the climate and natural environment of these countries. Island countries can adapt to these changes by developing sustainable tourism strategies and investing in resilient infrastructure. For example, some island countries have begun to invest in building technologies that can withstand storms and sea level rise. Tourist CONCLUSION – RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION 1st overall recommendation: Recognize the Countries with an arid climate and Small Island Countries as a specific category of countries with the URGENT implementation of action programs in the face of climate change within a specific institutional framework of the United Nations. Like the group of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) at UNESCO, it would be important to form a group of countries with arid climates that face the same problems related to their specific vulnerability to global warming. This would make it possible to tackle this problem jointly and not in isolation. 2nd overall recommendation: Adopt zero emission sustainable tourism development for countries with an arid climate and for small islands. Even if this is an ambitious objective, priority must be given to tourism infrastructure projects that favor a policy that does not emit carbon dioxide.
