Another prevalent misconception is that compliance with these regulations is an expensive burden on businesses. While initial implementation and ongoing compliance efforts may require investment, the long-term benefits of ensuring food safety and consumer trust far outweigh the costs. Furthermore, advancements in technology and streamlined regulatory processes have facilitated the integration of compliance measures into standard business operations, minimizing the perceived burden. The notion of general food law regulation is different across the world, varying significantly in scope, stringency, and implementation. In the European Union, for instance, a comprehensive regulatory framework ensures a high level of food safety and consumer protection, supported by robust oversight and enforcement. II. ANALYSING KEY OBJECTIVES IN EUROPEAN REGULATION AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR FOOD LAW On the 28th of January 2002 the European Parliament and the Council adopted Regulation (EC) 178/2002 laying down the General Principles and requirements of Food Law. Overall, food law in Europe reflects a commitment to safeguarding public health, fostering fair trade, and promoting transparency and sustainability within the food sector.
