One thing, however, is certain: thanks to the new Regulation, producers are granted the opportunity to further enhance the value of their actions, and consequently, the competence of the Consortia is also expanded, allowing them to exert a more direct influence on the promotion policies of “DOP Tourism,” including the possibility of preparing sustainability reports, if they so choose, to be published by the European Commission. VI. CONCLUSIONS Lastly, but not least in importance, it is necessary to mention the updates concerning: - the simplification of procedures for the registration, modification, and cancellation of TSGs. This simplification results from the assignment of a central role to the European Commission in managing these procedures, thereby ensuring greater transparency and easier access for producers seeking to register new TSGs; - the granting of enhanced incentives for sustainability in agri-food productions, with increased emphasis on the transparency of information provided to consumers in order to ensure clearer and more detailed communication. To conclude, it can therefore be stated that, through the delegation of broader powers to producer associations, a virtuous cycle can be initiated, capable of increasing the attractiveness of the system in which such associations are granted greater authority to manage, implement, and develop their geographical indications, thereby strengthening their position within the value chain. As a corollary to the foregoing paragraphs, it is further added that, if the GI has an international market, recognized Consortia are also granted the possibility to register, thereby establishing an immediate protection system in all contracting States, including those outside the European Union. It follows that the efforts of the European legislator to better regulate the registration procedure of a name such as “TSG,” the controls (extended to the digital realm), and the possibility of obtaining conformity attestations—also from a marketing and promotional perspective—are undoubtedly commendable. However, such interventions do not exhaust nor resolve all the interpretative uncertainties identified, related to the scope of protection of this quality regime, and thus, there is a risk of (continuing to) compromise its effectiveness and attractiveness. 394 FRANCESCO TORCHIA
