According to the Law, only food, food-contact materials, and articles that comply with the safety, quality, and handling requirements established in legal acts may be placed on the market. The safety of food is determined in accordance with the criteria set out in Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002. The safety of food-contact materials and articles is determined in accordance with the criteria set out in Article 3(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004. The Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Agriculture, Food Industry and Rural Development (2008) establishes the objectives of agricultural, food industry, and rural development policies, defines the principles for implementing state and European Union support for agriculture, the food sector, and rural development, and sets out the instruments of state and EU support, among other provisions. The Law on Product Safety of the Republic of Lithuania (1999) regulates the procedures for ensuring product safety and providing information about hazardous products. It defines the duties and responsibilities of economic operators, service providers, and electronic marketplace operators in ensuring product safety, as well as the principles of market supervision, application of market restriction measures, and product safety assessment. The Law on National Heritage Products of the Republic of Lithuania (2007) ensures the state protection of national heritage products, facilitates the preservation and dissemination of accumulated traditional craft knowledge by granting it contemporary relevance, defines the classification principles of national heritage products and traditional crafts, regulates certification procedures for national heritage products and the attestation of traditional crafts masters, and creates favourable conditions for the creators of national heritage products to develop, market, and popularize these products. It also establishes the principles and forms of state support for this area, to the extent not otherwise regulated by other laws of the Republic of Lithuania. The Law on Consumer Rights Protection of the Republic of Lithuania (1994) defines consumer rights and areas of consumer protection, establishes the institutional system of consumer protection and the competence of consumer protection authorities, regulates consumer education, governs the relations between consumers and sellers or service providers, sets procedures for nonjudicial consumer rights enforcement, and determines liability for violations of legislation governing consumer protection. 661 GASTRONOMY LAW IN LITHUANIA – CURRENT ISSUES OF LEGAL REGULATION TODAY
