8. KIRETI89 , the platform controls video surveillance devices installed in the city, enabling widespread monitoring of the territory. Intelligent security management also includes video analysis features based on artificial intelligence. Due to its ease of use, the platform enables local police to manage security quickly and efficiently by making data, images and video streams from different security subsystems available to operators in real time and on a single interface. 9. POLIS-EYE90 , a platform that helps optimize tourist flows, enabling administrators and operators to plan daily activities and avoid overcrowding. 10. STOP91 , a formidable intelligent platform that monitors, aggregates and interprets millions of tourist destinations and cultural attractions through innovative AI representations and solutions. X. PALINODIE OF THE SMART CITY In its first draft this paper did not envisage such a conclusion and was directed to be dismissed for printing with the perspectives resigned in the section on case histories. Only a moment before the imprimatur was given, however, it was decided to include this last reflection to the final draft in the conviction that it was also necessary to share, all the more so in the wake of the analyses conducted so far in favor of the development of cities and tourism in a technological key, and without any reactionary intent, certain still controversial points of the more general discourse developed around the theoretical benefits of this so-called intelligent city. Without going back over what we have already said several times, about the complex definition of a smart city, it suffices for us here only to recall that the idea of a smart city has been gradually consolidating from 1990 onward, especially in America, in the terms of a very convinced idea of the improvement of urban life achievable through the promised development of new technologies of which the very city could have been the privileged seat of so many of their implementation possibilities . 92 89 Cf., Kireti.co.uk. 90 Cf., poliseye.co.uk. 91 Cf., www.wishinnovation.it 92 The California Institute for Smart Communities was among the first research centers to consider how cities could be designed to perform better through the use of information technology. An early attempt to systematize the smart city concept in the political-institutional arena can be traced back to the study by Giffinger R., Fertner C., Kramar H., Kalasek R., Pichler-Milanovic N.
