actor in the promotion of virtuous dynamics within the local economic system. In this sense, the Albergo Diffuso model aligns with the values promoted by the international Slow Food movement, which advocates for “good, clean and fair” food for all (Petrini, 2012),17 supporting small producers, promoting biodiversity, and encouraging conscious consumption in the face of industrial homogenization. III. PRESERVATION THROUGH INNOVATION: THE CORIPPO ALBERGO DIFFUSO AND THE VALORIZATION OF A HISTORIC VILLAGE Corippo is a small rural village located in the Verzasca Valley, a few kilometers from the shores of Lake Maggiore, known for being the smallest municipality in Switzerland until its administrative integration with other villages into the new municipality of Verzasca in 2021. Like many localities in the pre-Alpine and Alpine valleys of the Canton of Ticino, Corippo experienced a marked process of depopulation in the last century, going from 315 inhabitants recorded in 1850 to only 9 in 2019 (Pauli Falconi, 2023).18 At the same time, Corippo constitutes an exceptional example of a Ticinese rural village that did not undergo significant transformations or relevant interventions during the 20th century, thus preserving its historically extremely compact urban fabric, composed of stone houses with characteristic “piode” roofs, the typical stone slabs.19 Due to its particular building morphology and its exceptional state of conservation, the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Ticino selected Corippo as a historic settlement to be protected and revitalized in 1975 on the occasion of the European Year of Architectural Heritage. Subsequently, and with the aim of «implementing all the necessary measures to conserve, reactivate and promote the village»,20 the Corippo 1975 Foundation was established the following year, a non-profit organization supported by the Confederation, the Canton, and the Municipality. 17 Petrini, C.
