no. 2741/1999 (Government Gazette A’199), provided for the award of the ‘Greek Cuisine Quality Label’ (Figure 1.). This Label is granted to catering and leisure establishments. It certifies that the business awarded: a) offers a satisfactory level of dishes that follow or are based on the Greek gastronomic tradition, with emphasis on local cuisines where available; b) uses Greek products to a significant extent, with emphasis on local products and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) food-related products; c) promotes the Greek gastronomic and wine tradition and production as a whole; and d) provides a satisfactory level of overall service (Ministerial Decision 7827, Government Gazette B’1463). The Label is granted by the Ministry of Tourism after an inspection by a special collective body of the quality of the dishes and the overall provision of services of the business and it is valid for three years. Restaurants that wish to renew their Label for another three years should apply for it before the Label expires. The Label is optional, but catering establishments awarded with this Label attract passionate tourists who seek gastronomic experiences, motivated by their gastronomic interest (Garibaldi et al, 2021). The Greek Cuisine Quality Label is also an optional quality criterion for the classification of hotels in star categories. A fee of €293 is payable to apply for obtaining the Label. Figure 1.
