Public Health Offices Public Health Offices supervise compliance with the Public Health Act. They may fine restaurants for breaches of the Act49. As noted above, the Offices also issue binding opinions on the suitability of premises and must be notified before a restaurant opens. Czech Trade Inspection Authority The Czech Trade Inspection Authority enforces compliance with the Consumer Protection Act50. It can, for instance, fine businesses for misleading labelling of services or any other unfair practices toward consumers51. Trade Licensing Offices Trade Licensing Offices are allowed to fine businesses which lack appropriate trade licenses or violate any other legal requirements concerning trade licenses. In serious cases, they can even ban a business from providing restaurant services.52. Labour Inspection Offices Labour Inspection Offices fine businesses which do not comply with employment law. They supervise compliance with, for example, labour safety regulations, employee remuneration obligations, working-hours requirements etc.53 III. FURTHER GASTRONOMY RELATED PRACTICAL LEGAL ISSUES Associations in restaurant and hospitality industry There are numerous associations in the Czech restaurant and hospitality industry. “Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic” has 1 900 members among hotels and restaurants, it offers, for example, counselling and classes for its members. It also grants yearly awards in the hospitality industry (e.g. hotel of the year, restaurant of the year etc.). We could also mention a smaller association called “Association of the Restaurant Owners APRON”.
