There is also “Czech Beer Breweries and Malthouses Association” which consists of larger breweries. Michelin Guide in the Czech Republic The Michelin Guide is a book which has been published every year since 1900 which lists the world’s best restaurants. There are two restaurants which are currently awarded with one Michelin star in the Czech Republic, “Field” and “La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise”54, both located in Prague. One Michelin star means that the awarded restaurant is “worth a stop”55. Five more restaurants in the Czech Republic are awarded with Michelin Bib Gourmand56 (an award for restaurants which serve “good food at moderate prices”57). There are twenty more Czech restaurants in the Michelin Guide without any specific award58 however mere presence in the Michelin Guide is generally considered an honour. Quality schemes for groceries There are currently six main quality schemes for groceries in the Czech Republic. The first three are based on EU regulation 2024/1143 so they apply across the entire European Union. These are “Protected Designation of Origin”, “Protected Geographical Indication” and “Traditional Speciality Guaranteed”59. Simply put, the first two schemes specify the region where the products must be produced (or grown etc.)60. The third scheme protects only the traditional method of production of the protected grocery, such products can be made anywhere as long as the traditional way of production is followed61.
