State protection of national heritage products in Lithuania is ensured by the following institutions: the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania and the Agricultural Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, and municipal institutions. According to Article 17 of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on National Heritage Products (2007), national heritage products are divided into the following main groups: Group I - traditional products. Group II - plants and animals of traditional varieties or their products, products of natural resources. Group III - traditional services, traditional fairs. The Ministry of Agriculture, when compiling the National Heritage Products Classifier, classifies national heritage products into separate product areas, types, and subspecies according to certain product characteristics. Thus, in summary, the placing of food products on the market and ensuring food safety for consumers is sufficiently legally regulated in Lithuania by both European Union and national legal acts. However, it should be noted that it is quite difficult for small businesses to navigate the abundance of legal acts, especially since today, with changing global consumption trends, frequent changes in legal acts are noticeable both at the national and European Union levels.
