IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Comparative technique TSG system in the European Union In this regard, a summary of the European Regulation is made given its extensive regulatory prescription and emphasis is also placed on the EU countries phase, taking into account that in the Andean Subregion: Peru and Ecuador, only the national phase occurs. Regarding the scope of application, it is indicated that it applies to “agricultural products, including food products”, differentiating the agricultural product and the food product in different annexes. (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, 2024, Article 51) provides for the protection and promotion of traditional production methods and recipes, ensuring that agricultural products intended for human consumption are distinguished by their specific characteristics and their connection with European cultural traditions. This scheme seeks to benefit producers through more effective marketing of their products, to facilitate information to consumers about the unique attributes of their traditional recipes and products that give them added value, as well as to formulate fair competition in the marketing chain and contribute to the objectives of rural development policy (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, 2024, Article 52). In order for a product to be registered as a TSG, it must meet the eligibility criteria. According to the stipulations, a product can be registered as a TSG when the names describe a product that is linked to a traditional production, processing or composition method, and also uses typically traditional ingredients or raw materials. However, its traditional or historical use by producers must be at least 30 years old (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, 2024, paragraph 3, article 2). In this sense, names containing general claims or provided for in specific Union regulations are excluded. (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, 2024, Article 53) The registration procedure also requires the submission of a specification, which must include the name of the product, a description of its physical, chemical, microbiological or organoleptic characteristics, as well as the production method used, which must reflect its traditional character. The specification may also adopt labelling requirements (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, 2024. Article 54) In order to manage this system, the participation of producer groups is contemplated, understood as associations formed by the producers of the same product or related products.
